Pine State Biscuits

Breakfasters: Peter, Ilona, Daniel and Baby Bean.

The first time we went to Pine State was right after they opened and we were lucky enough to snag one of the three tables. Not this time. But we did score a parking spot right in front and ate in the car. It was like eating at Pine State by association. We had the biscuits and we were in a thirty foot radius. It *almost* was the same, but really not all.

Okay. Damn was it chilly. Holy eff. Hello autumn. Peter and I waited in line while Daniel stayed in the car with the sleeping Baby Bean. A small sacrifice so that we can feel like halfway decent parents who didn't forget that naptime is around 11, and thus, we should plan to be at breakfast at 9, not 10. Duly noted. Though it was so damn cold, that I think they had the better bargain.

The guys both got the Moneyball: biscuits and gravy with a fried egg. They both seemed satisfied. Peter was nearly done before I'd even unwrapped my sandwich, and Daniel chose not to finish his (I think the gravy was doing him in). I ordered a chicken, egg and cheese biscuit. I'm sure there is a world of things to say about eating chicken and eggs together, but I didn't even notice until Daniel pointed it out. It was...not strange. What is was, was dry. The fried chicken was good - I would've been happy just to eat that. But the combo needed something on the biscuit (mayo? butter? I don't know, but something).

Pine State Wisdom: You don't need the extra biscuit with honey and butter (or fruit and whip) to share with everyone. Its too damn much food. Ours is still sitting on the floor of the backseat.

Oh yeah, and Peter ordered the grits and said they were tasty (though Screen Door is still the winner in the grits department).

In all, Daniel and I agreed that for a restuarant that has no seating, it was maybe a bit too expensive. But then they have the hipster appeal, so I guess you pay the extra to stand in line and pretend you're one of the cool people. Woulda been nice to have a menu outside too so you could decide what you want before you are standing at the counter with a long line of people behind you.
